Pleco Chinese Dictionary App Reviews

Absolutely the best app for Mandarin. Unlike Google Translate, it gives you context options. You can type it a word and it will give you ALL of the possible corresponding words with example sentences in context so that you can choose your meaning. It will save you from some embarrassing translation mistakes. Also, it is useful for technical and scientific terms. When I wanted isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) or hydrogen peroxide at the pharmacy, I could just show it to the clerk. Awesome!

Free, ad-free and robust dictionary. pinyin, traditional and simplified characters. You can also click on characters to find individual meanings. 我学习汉语两年了。I would pay for this to continue to support them. :) I am so happy with it. Please make one for the mac!! ;)

Greatest Chinese app ever made.

This app was a godsend. No need for internet, always there, perfect for day to day life.

The only reason I wanted a smartphone was because of this app. The only reason I am even considering getting an iPad is because of this app. This app is absolutely the best. At least most non-native professionals learning and using Chinese in their careers use this dictionary. My former Chinese professor (who is an American) required me to get this dictionary instead of a textbook, and I use this "textbook" more frequently than any of the textbooks I was ever assigned in college. I have graduated from college a few years ago. Mike Love is also open to suggestions. I will admit I am a little bit of a naggy pest to him, but somehow he manages to continue responding to my emails. Often faster than even my wife and other family members respond to my text messages, and he takes my suggestions seriously, and actually implements them. I have contacted my lions share of app developers out there and none in any app category can beat his responsiveness and openness to collaborate with you on how to improve this app. It is truly a one-of-a-kind app. Its worth every penny. My only regret with this app is that I paid for the education discount instead of the more expensive price option Pleco gives you. Why? Because I can definitely tell how hard this guy works on this app. One last thing, if you think there is ever at any point in time a word youre looking up that you cannot find, which is not that easy to come by anyway, Mike will make sure to add it to this dictionary. Therefore, your purchase guarantees that you will always be able to find the word that you are looking for.

I use this ALL the time, I liked it so much I paid for expansion voice pack. Worth every penny. Characters are colored by tone, searches are great, writing strokes are animated, you can create Flashcard decks.

This is completely useless

The developers behind Pleco have created the best Chinese-English dictionary, hands down. It has thousands of words, randomized voices for audio playback, and many add-ons which are definitely worth the money. The handwriting recognition is extremely efficient, the stroke diagrams are great, and the built-in flash cards are a wonderful learning tool. I havent tried the camera recognition but judging by the rest of the app, I would expect it to work well, too. Overall, this is an amazing app that clearly been the result of lots of time and effort, and it is so much more than just a dictionary. Thank you Pleco devs!!

The intelligent design of this software merits more space for praise than this review allows. I was looking for a Clavis Sinica-type reader for the iPad and Pleco has a terrific one neatly integrated with their dictionary. Id be surprised if there is a learning need Pleco is unable to meet. Addendum after much experience with Pleco. The app continues to deliver more than one expects; its an insanely enjoyable piece of software in addition to being the best language learning tool Ive ever used and Ive tried more than a few.

Pleco is simply put, the best Chinese-English dictionary available on mobile devices. Ive studied Chinese for 9 years and Pleco has been there every step of the way. Its been immensely helpful and easy to use in learning, traveling, or even just browsing for fun. All words and definitions are saved locally instead of online, theres example sentences, radical search, and its all ad-free. Theres also handwriting input which is a premium feature, and also even more dictionaries than the base, plus a bunch more features. If youre learning Chinese, download this app. You wont regret it.

Yes! This app is absolutely amazing for Chinese to English/English to Chinese translations. This is a must have and it only gets better. Worth keeping and buying the extra add ons that just just improve the already impeccable quality.

Seriously the best Chinese learning app on the market.

This is that rare Chinese app that actually is everything you wish it was. Its outstanding. REALLY. You can look up words by radical or pinyin. AND like a normal Chinese dictionary you get a substantial list of the various combinations/words/uses of the character. AND whats better than using a paper dictionary is that you only need to tap on any of these other "words" to see their meaning. No rifling thru pages to get a really full sense of the character. Example: lian suo brings up chain, chain store, chain reaction etc.. then, if you want, you can easily choose to investigate any of those words (reaction for example) by just tapping. AS WELL: you can choose to hear it spoken. Used in sentences etc. And its so cleanly laid out- its just easy.

Its a very nice dictionary and very useful to learn Chinese.

The best mandarin app for learners.

Best dictionary on any market is an understatement. Buy the GuiFan extension, its $10 I think, and gives you cn to cn dict. But even without it youre still getting a lot.

I have just started learning mandarin and this app is sooooo useful. Not sure what I would do without it. Definitely worth investing in if you are serious about improving your mandarin skills
