Best dictionary and app for learning chinese hands down. Constantly updating with new features and dictionaries

This is the app to get. Its not a cheap app once you buy some add ons, but cheap is relative and you have to consider the value of what you get. Its not a little toy with bad coverage, its a serious tool with tremendous resources right at hand once you shell out for them. Depending on the add-ons you choose you may pay a lot (compared to some apps) but youre getting WAY more and its worth it. In short this is a quality app with an amazing set of features. Ive been using this app over the years and watching it develop has been impressive. They really pour their heart and soul into it. Excellent example of what can be done taking full advantage of the platform. Wishes/negatives: I wish the flash cards could be done in smaller sets (10 at a time instead of the fatiguing and intimidating 100 or 200, which keeps me away from the app.) But to be fair its been a while and maybe they fixed this? Id like to check but i cant now until i re-download the flash cards module, which brings me to a second negative: restore purchases is telling me I have no purchases to restore for this Apple ID, which is not true. So I have to email support. Their support is friendly and helpful (always has resolved any issues in the past) but I wish this wasnt necessary. However, it might be an Apple problem, so I cant blame Pleco. But its still a problem. Overall great app. Get it, buy some add ons, and it will be a great tool to have in your studies.

Extremely easy to use and convenient. Has definitions and phrases, has both traditional and simplified Chinese.

This app has been invaluable during my time in China. I use it everyday in my journey to learn Chinese.

I have used Pleco almost daily for the past two years and it continues to be one of my most favorite, go-to-apps on my phone - I myself am an American-born Chinese (ABC!) and was taught at a young age the Chinese language but have since lost it. This app has proven to be an integral part in my relearning the language. Honestly, I dont use this app to its fullest extent. I have never done the flash cards or much of the added features (I cant even think of them). However, the vast number of entries in this dictionary, plus the pronunciations, stroke order, as well as the OCR have been so helpful that just for these three features I purchased the "pro" version of this app. I cannot recommend this app highly enough for any learners of Chinese, whether youre a beginner or expert! Also, this is not a paid review nor am I in anyway shape or form related to Pleco. I just wanted to give my honest opinion on a fantastic app that deserves this review :)

App updates make sense ... and are progressive. Use the app frequently, cant live without it.

NOTE: This is ad-free, even if you dont spend any money. I dont normally review apps, but I literally use this app for at least an hour every single day, and, on average, I probably use it two hours every day. What these developers have been able to accomplish, I applaud. This app is absolutely fantastic. Any person serious about learning Chinese should get this app. If youre a student, get the basic bundle, but DONT cheat these hard-working people out of any money if youre not. I mean it when I say the Basic Bundle is worth every penny. Its features and additions have been invaluable in my studies. Dont buy bits and pieces separately. Its better to go all-in. Even if you dont want to purchase additional features, it is a spectacular Chinese dictionary. Youll have material to review until the cows come home. This is a super solid, desktop-quality application. Its feature-rich, reliable, and brilliantly designed. I highly recommend this app for any English speaker seriously studying Chinese.

I wish there were dictionary apps this good for other languages. I love the level of detail this app offers. I heard about it on the Sinica podcast and have not been disappointed. So robust for a free app.

Ive used Pleco for the last couple years. At this point I use it far more times every day then I could possibly count. Other than Google Mail it is almost certainly my most-used app of all time. The true strength of Pleco is the variety of dictionary files available. When youre just starting out, any old Chinese-English dictionary will do - and features like stroke order and OCR are really important. The wonderful thing about Pleco is it can also grow with you. So once youre an advanced user of Chinese, there are mutliple dictionary files that let you work in a purely Chinese-Chinese mode, with no English involved. It is literally the one and only language-related app that I has been able to make that transition with me - from being useful to a beginner all the way to being useful to me today in C-C mode. Id give it ten stars if I could.

Trust me I have been using this since the Palm version and its the best out there Amazing app. Worth every penny. Awesome app. Nice job the support is really good too if you ever need it. This is the best Chinese dictionary in the world. I bought the OCR add on so I can use my camera to recognize characters and translate it to English or pinyin If your thinking about if its worth the price tag, It is for sure Wow! the OCR can recognize Chinese characters and translate into English Thanks 

I used before, during, and after recent trip to Beijing, for everything from academic conference attendance to shopping mall. I was so happy I took the time to learn all the features. I am going again next month and already appreciate the updates and improved OCR.

I have been studying Chinese for 4 years and graduated with a minor in Chinese languages at UCLA. I always used Pleco when studying Chinese. I love the multiple dictionaries with many example sentences of each word. When I have had an issue with the app (only 2 minor issues in the past 5 years), I would email the developer and they would always get back to me within the same day and resolve the issue. They are very helpful and courteous. 5 stars for this app.

I use the Pleco app daily. Bought the full package and typically use most of the features daily as well.
