Pleco Chinese Dictionary App Reviews

Perfect and complete as a dictionary. Also very useful for a better understanding of how Chinese characters and words are formed (it gives you insights on strokes, radicals and other components for each entry of the dictionary). I also find very useful the "sentence" section, which gives you several examples for every entry in context. To be noted that the dictionary contains many place names and people names. I would suggest, when you look for the Chinese translation of an English word, to organize entries ranked by how commonly they are used in mandarin. Some Chinese friends have told me that they would rather use the third or fourth of the research results, not the first one.

Ive used Pleco since the Palm Pilot days. From time to time I have looked at alternatives. For the American learner of Mandarin Chinese I have found no viable alternative. Between the multiple dictionaries (English -> Chinese *and* Chinese -> English, too), Reader and flash cards Pleco is my daily use "go to" tool. Someday I will get around to the OCR.

I just move to China and cant say enough good things about this app. I dont know what I would do without it!

This app is amazing! It has example of sentence which is an absolute essential. Toggle between English and Pin Yin search is brilliant!

Been a student of Chinese for 4 years. Lived in China for 2. Even my Chinese friends in China refer to Pleco for assistance in helping me learn. They say it is the "best". No need for more endorsement.

Pleco is very easy to use and includes many useful features. It is week worth the cost. I used it often as a student and would recommend it to anyone.

THE BEST Chinese dictionary, hands down. Especially for Chinese language learners. I especially like the example sentences, lets you see sentence structure at work so you can form your own sentences using that format. The character tab is nice too, lets you break down words for a more clear meaning to aid in memorization. This app is essential, I couldnt live without it.

This is a very good app for looking up many different words and sentences and I use it very often.

Like everyone else is saying, this is the best app for anyone wanting to learn Chinese. I was in China for 4 months studying Mandarin and used this app all day every day. The first few days I wouldnt have eaten without this app!

With iOS 10 out, I think Pleco should take advantage of this and make it supported with Siri. Maybe like asking for the definition through Siri. I use this app everyday and its one of the best Chinese resources on the App Store. Im only giving this a 4 star rating because Im hoping that pleco will add this feature

It saved me for all my Chinese classes as well as on the road when reading menus or signs in Shanghai. Pleco is great and could not have survived without it during my time in China & Hong Kong. Go Pleco!!!

Thank you pleco for making such a wonderful app. I esp love how much has been done for the cantonese options. Another great feature is that i can customise the colors screen

This app is so great, I use it for Chinese homework all the time. Itd be really helpful if we could handwrite some characters into the search bar if we dont know the pinyin instead of having to search for the radical and then the character cause that takes kinda long. But other than that the app is amazing. Love the Cantonese part and the color coding. <3
